Gas or Electric Central Heating
Gas or Electric Central Heating
Central heating is one of the most favourable heating options -
but there are different kinds of central heating that come with
their specific pros and cons.
All central heating systems consist of basically a boiler, the
radiators and the interconnecting piping. The boiler heats the
water and a pump circulates the water through the pipework and
radiators and back to the boiler.
Choosing a gas or electric central heating system is one
of the first and biggest decisions when considering an
installation. Gas and Electric central heating systems
produce significantly low emissions and are both eco-friendly
options. There is no absolute answer as homes vary in size and
energy usage. Likewise, tight budgets can have an impact on which
system to go for. While any of these options will keep your home
warm in the end, there are some differences regarding cost,
maintenance and installation.
Gas Central Heating Systems emit water and
carbon dioxide which are vented to the outside of the building by a
flue attached to the boiler. A Gas central heating system requires
yearly boiler service checks by a Gas Safe Registered engineer
which are essential to ensure the system is running efficiently and
safe. Gas is a highly efficient fuel, so you get a good return on
every unit of energy that is used. Replacing a standard gas boiler
with a highly efficient modern condensing boiler is a relatively
straightforward job. All new boilers sold in the UK must be High
Efficiency Condensing models.
Electric Central Heating Systems doesn't need
to be installed on an outside wall to vent gases as it doesn't
produce any gases which gives it more versatility of where it can
be installed. There are no requirements for Electric central
heating systems to be serviced yearly. An electric boiler can
directly replace other boilers in conventional heating systems;
they are very compact, light and can be run off cheap rate
electricity. Another benefit is that they are completely silent.
However depending on the type of system being installed you are
limited to Electricity Suppliers range of suitable tariffs
available.
